Founded in Knoxville in 1984, the Pienkowski MD family of clinics has provided allergy, asthma, and immunology care to East Tennessee for more than four decades. The practice later expanded to Greeneville, Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol, bringing specialized care closer to patients throughout the region. Today, we remain proud to serve the communities of East Tennessee with personalized, evidence-based care driven by the latest research in the field.

Our Physicians

Marek Pienkowski MD, PhD - Physician and Founder


Dr. Marek Pienkowski is a physician, immunologist, and medical researcher who founded the Pienkowski family of clinics in 1984. He earned his medical degree and PhD in immunology from the Medical University of Warsaw and completed fellowship training in allergy and immunology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Throughout his career, he has combined scientific research with patient care, focusing on allergy, asthma, immunodeficiency, and desensitization and contributing to more than 50 scientific publications. Under his leadership, the practice expanded beyond its original Knoxville location to serve communities throughout East Tennessee. His dedication to advancing the field while making specialized care accessible to patients across the region established the foundation upon which the practice continues to grow.


Stefan Pienkowski MD, MA — Physician and Medical Director



Dr. Stefan Pienkowski is a board-certified family physician, ethicist, and medical researcher with advanced training in allergy, asthma, and immunology. He earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and philosophy from Emory University, a master’s degree in applied ethics from Duke University, and his medical degree from East Tennessee State University. His medical research focuses on asthma, urticaria, anaphylaxis, vaccine allergy, desensitization, and airborne allergens in East Tennessee. At Pienkowski MD Clinic, he continues his family’s longstanding commitment to allergy and immunology while bringing the broad perspective of family medicine to each patient’s care. As Medical Director, he draws on his background in applied ethics to guide the clinic’s day-to-day operations and broader approach to patient care, while working closely with its allergist-immunologists on specialty clinical protocols.
